How to Decorate for Fall Without Pumpkins

You don’t have to go crazy with pumpkins, the color orange, wheat, and Pumpkin Patch U-Pick This Way signs to create a cozy, time-change-is-a-coming fall vibe in your home. Just add a few elements and you’re ready to fall back!

I start with warm, rich colors in whatever I use, but remember to add in creamy tones, to balance the space. I like big baskets, blankets, and fluffy pillows in all different textures and sizes….

For this dresser, I started with candle holders. I like black, gold, or copper candle holders and candles (real or faux, the more, the better), add old plain books for texture and height (remove the covers for a neutral look), a seasonal plant/foliage (faux or real) is always a good idea for a soft texture, and a lamp for fall, cozy ambience.

Layers

I like layering and using large, and where I can, tall, decor. Don't shy away from your ceilings! Bring your eye up with taller decor. It'll make the space feel larger and more “put together” by using the (vertical) space you have.

I am a big advocate for wall layering, so I tend to use old shutters or windows or frames as a backdrop for seasonal signs or prints. Search Etsy for fall digital prints and print out yourself or pickup at a printer. Add to dollar store or old thrift store frames. Or just use the frames you have.

Easy

That’s it. Do'n’t crowd the space, keep the decor either only in the middle or to each side. I like to group in odd numbers, like 3 or 5, which seems universally more pleasing to the eye. Enjoy fall with baskets, cozy throws, faux candles, warm, rich colors, and your people. And soup. Don’t forget the soup.
