Winter Simmer Pot

Have you ever made a simmer pot? They are great for your skin and sinuses in the winter to combat dry air that most of us deal with in our homes. I’ve doubled up with one on my gas stove, and one on my wood stove on extra cold, snow days.

And, it makes your whole house smell like, well, winter.

They are easy to make. Just use what you have. Don’t over think it. Add more or less. Sometimes, I add double than whats in my recipe, and add in extra essential oils to make certain scents pop (i.e. adding a few drops of orange, pine, grapefruit, etc, essential oils). You can use more oils over actual fruit as well, including rosemary or clove oil —be conservative with those- Honestly, you can’t screw this up!

When in doubt, just add more cinnamon! ha!

Winter Simmer Pot Recipe

> Slice and add to water or cider. 

2 oranges

2 apples

2 lemons/ limes

1 bag cranberries

1-2 TBSP whole cloves

3-4 cinnamon sticks

1-2 TBSP cinnamon 

1 pkg/ 3 sprigs fresh rosemary 

1-2 TBSP nutmeg

Other options: 1/2 grapefruit, vanilla beans, any essential oils.

Simmer on low all day (preferably in a dutch oven…I have this exact one, but it was being used for Pasta e Fagoli at the time HA! .

A simmer pot is a natural, inexpensive way to add moisture into the cold, winter air and hydration into your skin, safely. This can be enjoyed for a few days. Just add more water as needed.
